The term "plasma" refers to any ionized gas that is able to conduct electricity - a kind of sustained lightning. The plasma process operates without a conventional fuel (such as natural gas or hydrogen, etc.) and there is no flame or by-products (as caused by the combustion of a conventional fuel or incineration).
PET’s plasma systems employ an electrically driven reactor that produces an intense field of radiant energy, at a temperature of several thousand degrees, that literally breaks apart the molecular bonds of liquid, gaseous, and solid compounds of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. The molecules of the waste material are separated into their elemental atomic components, and then reformed into non-hazardous by-products or converted into commodities for commercial use.
